Our Experience

Our consulting team has extensive experience working with communities and businesses throughout North America and beyond. Some of this is outlined below:

  • Worked with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo on their business and economic recovery efforts, post wildfire; which included developing the draft business and economic recovery plan that was presented and endorsed by Council, setting up and running the Wood Buffalo Business Recovery Hotline and validating businesses for Red Cross emergency relief. During that phase of the response, over 4100 businesses were registered, and over $3.2 million provided to small businesses in Fort McMurray. This project also included organizing a 10-member technical assistance team visit, writing and presenting an economic opportunity assessment with over 50 recommendations.

  • Worked with the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) to bring their Economic Resilience Training for Community and Regional Leaders to Canada, including a pilot project in four Alberta communities in 2017 (Town of Whitecourt, Parkland County, County of Grande Prairie and Vegreville).  Training now available to all Canadian communities.

  • Spearheaded the Economic Disaster Recovery Project, as a result of significant flooding in Alberta. This was a practical/theoretical training exercise for 10 Alberta communities and Treaty 7 Community Futures (Siksika/Stoney). It involved community visits, final reports, a summary report and training for elected officials. It was in partnership with IEDC and British Columbia's Economic Development Association, The Government of Alberta (Innovation & Advanced Education), Shell, RBC Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross and the US Consulate in Calgary.

  • “Canadianized” the Recovery and Resiliency Roadmap: A Toolkit for Economic Preparedness, based on a US-Version, developed by IEDC. It is a toolkit for communities to use in preparing for and recovering from economic disruptions, whether natural or manmade. The Toolkit was adopted by Mount Royal University in their Emergency Management & Disaster Recovery Program.

  • Updated the community toolkit in 2017 with new case studies, content and links. It is now known as the Community Toolkit for Economic Recovery and Resiliency (2017 Canadian Version).

  • Organized an Inter-provincial Summit with economic development organizations in BC, Saskatchewan and Ontario which established a foundation to work together on key issues of mutual interest.

  • Established a partnership with the University of Calgary, Continuing Education to launch a Professional Management Certificate with a specialization in Economic Development.

  • Initiated a review of EDA’s Community Economic Development Training Program (CEDTP), including the launch of an elected officials module.

  • Spearheaded a successful bid to host and organize an international trade conference in Calgary, which included securing federal government funding to bring ten delegates from developing countries.

  • Conceptualized and implemented a CIDA-funded project in partnership with the Trade Facilitation Office of Canada, OWIT, and the APEC Women Leaders Network to bring 15 women delegates from CIDA-priority countries to participate in a Miami conference

  • Lead the development of a strategic business plan for a U.S.-based, women’s non-profit with global membership.

  • Continue to provide political consulting advice to a number of federal, provincial and municipal candidates.

  • Represented the Mayor of Calgary on various committees and special projects, including the: Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Business & Education, Calgary Economic Development Advisory Board, PACOM Conference Organizing Committee and Action Committee Against Violence.
